here we go!

I was taking it easy this summer, getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep every night, rarely drinking. Look at me now. I can't sleep because I got drunk on a Sunday afternoon. You know how when I drink on weekends and I'm out til whatever hour, I come home and wake up at 8am. I guess this is proportional, cause yesterday afternoon, we got drunk but I was in bed by 10:45pm, enough time to get roughly 8 hours before work. Of course, I woke up at 3:15am and now I can't sleep. Figures huh.

Yesterday was funny. We got in trouble for being at the closed pool (gah, Mom), played spurt-of-the-moment beer pong, broke into the Marriott basketball court, ate late night pizza, and watched part of Anchorman. You guys make me laugh!

wood

Somehow, it came to my attention that I work with some people who have never played flipcup. I decided to fix that.

Being 4 hours away from home base with no solid connections in the Raleigh area, I sent a few emails out at work seeing if anyone would be interested in a Studio Plus beer pong/flip cup party. When the interest became apparent, my lack of owning a beer pong table became even more apparent. Right after work yesterday afternoon, I asked another intern if he could help me out and go buy some wood with me. We picked out a fine 49x97 piece of wood, and Ryan looks at me and says, "Honestly, is this going to fit in my car?" Not wanting to deal with his dubiousness, I replied, "Of course!" Of course it wasn't! He's got an SUV, but 97 is pretty much the length of the interior of his car, so obviously, we strapped it to the top of the car... with the wimpiest twine I've ever seen. We had laced the twine through the windows of the car... yeah, we tied ourselves out of the car. College students. We got in through the back, but the back has no inside handle, so then we tied ourselves inside of the car. With this twine being so wimpy, I drove Ryan's car and Ryan, with his big long arms, literally had one arm out each window, holding this piece of wood to his car, for the slowest, 5 mile drive I've ever been a part of.

A couple of interns and a couple of coworkers came over, and we figured out that I'm amazing at flipcup. In head to head, multiple cup matches, I went three for three. I drank a beer and flipped six cups in under a minute. I'm obviously not at Clemson for an education huh!

Downtown Raleigh seems pretty sweet from what I can remember! Sweet...

sports

I'm really not a sports person; however, for a year and a half, I dated the sports guy. The guy that's not only really good at sports, but he watches Sports Center loop at least 3-5 times a day. Throughout our year and a half relationship, I probably watched more baseball, football, and basketball than I ever did in my entire life up until that point. Since we haven't been dating since February, this means I caught two baseball seasons, two college and NFL football seasons, two college basketball seasons, but only the 2004 NBA season with this particular guy. Looking the way I do, the small, fragile Asian girl, most guys don't expect me to know the first thing about sports. Last night, this particular guy tried to quiz me and asked me who was in the NBA Finals only to receive the correct answer, and later, when no one could think of which team was the only team to beat Illinois in the regular season, I piped in the right answer again. In both instances, the boys asked me, "How did you know that???" Come on guys... I'll pick up something.

Later tonight, I'm teaching a couple of people who have been in college for three to four years how to play flip cup. Three to four years and no flip cup experience? Huh?

asian mullet

Happy anniversary, Asian mullet! How you've grown!

I'll take pictures of the current 'do and compare and contrast when I get some batteries for the camera.

5,000 miles

Since exam week back at the end of May/beginning of June, I have driven 5,000 miles. I realize I've spent more time in my car than in a man's arms this summer. Ahh the life of a single yuppie. (I can call myself a yuppie cause I'm posing as a young urban professional for the summer, right?)

four hour pit

I'm feeling it now, but I legitimately live four hours from the following places:

Greenville/Clemson, SC
Charleston, SC
Washington DC
Unicoi, TN
Cherokee, NC.

Anyone else want me to Mapquest here-to-there so that I can find out that I'm four hours away from you, too?

what's there to say?

I guess I haven't been doing such a great job of keeping this website updated with actual details of my life (just MJ games and Raleigh ridiculousness).

The job is still going well; it makes me a little nervous that I'll be inadequate as an IE, but I guess I have almost 2 more months to really prove myself. So far, it's been a lot of independent work and decision making as to how I'm going to organize my time and attack the problems that are presented to me. Maybe that's what makes it so awkward for me right now since this is my first real job in the field I'm supposed to work in for the rest of my life.

Road trips are fun, too. Clemson two weekends ago and Charleston last weekend. It kind of tires me out so I think I'm going to slow down just a little bit. Saw a 3D movie, ate some Mellow Mushroom, drank on E. Bay St., celebrated Father's Day.

I'm going to stay in Raleigh this weekend, so hopefully I'll get some sleep and restore myself for... RYAN'S 21ST IN 2 MORE WEEKS!!!

performance driving

In preparation for my performance driving class next fall, I've been using my daily commute to and from work to practice country road driving. I fly around those curves; I make that contour hug the road. Today someone was pulled over for speeding, and I was going 75 on country roads. Maybe I should take it slow so I don't have to use all my summer earnings bailing my ass out of jail.

Happy 6/9!

oh no, there's crime in raleigh

So I take back my statement from the other day about how there might not be any crime in Raleigh because of the ridiculous news stories I've seen on TV. Today the news reported that a pizza delivery guy was shot en route to make several deliveries. Because his cell phone was not working, the delivery guy drove to his next stop, called his manager, then left that location to make three additional deliveries as his gunshot wound was bleeding. But again, I'm not making this up.

slap bracelets

I just saw on Food Network that this company is making koozies that are like slap bracelets. Crazy, those guys are really milking their 15 minutes huh.

i'm not making this up

Sometimes, when I'm not paying attention, I'll let the news come on TV and just watch it in between all the many, many other things I'm busy doing. Either there's no crime or anything interesting going on in Raleigh, or the local news just has an amazing sense of humor. Here are two stories I've seen and laughed out loud at:

1) The local news report that a woman was almost kidnapped after a day at the beach. As her attacker tried to get a hold of her and drag her away, apparently the tanning oil she had been applying all day had (and this is a direct quote) "made her way too slippery to captivate". Now here's the mental image I get--trying to firmly grasp a wet bar of soap.

2) Tonight, the local news reported on the German "wife carrying" contest. These men carried their wives through obstacle courses as a legitimate competition.

I'm not making this up.

what happens when...

...you have a best friend who broke your heart months ago, and you can't let yourself forget it.
...you have another best friend 250 miles and a girlfriend away.
...you have one more best friend across the sea.

I like the phone calls and IM conversations though.

weekend in cary

Since it takes about four and a half hours to get to any of the cities where my heart is, I'm staying in Cary this weekend. It's my first real weekend here alone so I'm kind of nervous that I'll get lonely or bored (but only boring people get bored!). The good thing is that I'm really tired from work this week so sleeping for ridiculous amounts of time should burn a sufficient chunk of this weekend. The other thing that should speed the weekend right along is that I got paid this past week, and having a steady income for the first time in a couple of years makes me like a kid in a candy shop.

Although I've been surprisingly happy and not lonely here, sometimes I do question why I chose a job so far away where I feel constantly out of place. Then I remind myself that the job itself is pretty sweet and then on top of that, I get cheap stuff (remember, let me know if you want any Calgon, Healing Garden, Rimmel, Celine Dion, JLo, Adidas, Mary Kate and Ashley, or any other Coty product you're interested in cause I'll get it for cheap). Also, it's a nice change of scenery, and my hotel is actually really close to a lot of shopping and such.

I miss my bed, I miss my friends, I miss my family.

i miss being 18

I miss the summer after senior year in high school... two and a half months of 20 hours a week at the old CVS, molten lava cakes at Chili's, random trips to the Spinx, a Police Academy marathon, 2 for 99cent movies on Tuesdays at Video Update, the first American Idol, Walmart... and most importantly, no real responsibilities!
